What and Why?

No more going through billions of search results. No more garbage, nonsense, misinformation, and random interpretations of ahadith and ayat.

We are proud to announce that this website has been created to make searching for Islamic information (English & Arabic) easier.

What is this site?

Ilm Finder uses the power of the Google search engine to go through a set of hand-selected sites which came from people just like you.  You will have at your hands access to three engines to search for:

  • Islamic websites that are in the English language
  • Islamic websites that are in the Arabic language
  • A dedicated Islam QA search engine (top right) to get quick answers to tough questions.

We hope that in the future, our list of included websites will continue to grow.  As time passes and our community becomes more active, we intend, Insha’Allah, to create search engines for Urdu, French, and Spanish.  With the help of Allah (swt), we can do this together.

For now, we’ll go with what we have.  So search away in English or Arabic.

Why come here?

You already have the “regular” Google don’t you?  Well, yes you do and we already mentioned that by coming here you don’t have to sift through the billions of search results.  What you want, what you need is access to a (growing) set of reliable, trustworthy Islamic websites.

Let’s say you wanted to look for information on “Parents” from an Islamic perspective.  You don’t want anything specific - you just want to know what Islam says about parents.  You could go to Google, Yahoo, or MSN and search for parents.  However, instead of finding out what Islam says about parents, you’ll get information on pregnancy and childrens’ health.

Our results are 100% deen, 100% of the time.

For purposes other than finding the Islamic information you need, Google is the way to go.  However, for this one area which is our beloved deen of Islam — it is in this one particular area that we need to be more focused and selective.  Welcome, then, to Ilm Finder.

Every website has a search engine, why not use that?

Google’s engine simply produces better results.  There is a automatic spell check and it even checks variations of the same word.  For example, on Islam QA, “pray” is different from “praying”.  Here it isn’t.

The goal is not to take traffic away from other sites.  That is absolutely the opposite of what we want.  Our goal is to make the information easier to access.  Islamic websites have more information that we can imagine.  It only makes sense then to use the most efficient tools out there.  Those tools are right here at ilmfinder.com.

I could just use Google….

Sure.  I guess you could — but Google’s regular search engine that includes everything from Lasik eye surgery to pornography simply won’t cut it for us Muslims who have a burning desire to learn more about our faith.

Let’s do a quick comparison between the “regular” Google, and our customized Google engine.  We use the same tools to search, but ours is limited to purely Islam related sites.

Using this search engine, we wanted to learn more information about good manners. So I went to our English search engine and used the words “good manners”.

On Ilm Finder, every result on every page talked about good manners in relation to Muslims.  Google?  Islam wasn’t mentioned until the 60th result.  60th?!  I don’t know about you, but when I want information on good manners as a Muslim, I’d rather see the results immediately — not click through 6 pages hoping I find what I want.  Oh yea, and did we mention that the 60th result on Google was the first result on Ilm Finder.

We had to click through 6 pages to find one single site about good manners and Islam on Google.com.  Ilm Finder?  It was the very first result.

Skeptical?  Take a look.  Ilm Finder vs Google.  So who are you going to trust for Islamic knowledge — The New York Times or the Scholars of our Ummah?

If you don’t know where to start, here are some terms you might want to try:

  1. Knowledge
  2. Taqwa
  3. Parents
  4. Friends
  5. Manners

Try it out and you’ll see for yourself why Ilm Finder is the best way to search for anything Islam related.  Time after time — search after search — you will come to find that the information you need is more accessible than ever.  Eventually you will begin asking yourself how you ever found any real information without Ilm Finder.

There are even links to Muslim stores where you can buy your favorite CDs (this isn’t an affiliate program and we don’t make money from it- we just want to give you the option).

The Reality

Once you start using this site, you’ll become an addict.  ilmfinder.com is simply that good at its single purpose: finding Islamic information.

If you love ilm then this is the site for you.

At the same time, we would like to leave you with this final closing note:  This website does not necessarily endorse or support any of the search results.  We have attempted to include a wide-range of reliable sites so as to present various viewpoints and standpoints.  However, while some sites may be awesome overall, they may still contain errors.  And so, by using this search engine, you take responsibility for whatever information you retrieve and how you use it.

We ask Allah (swt) to forgive us all for our shortcomings, to make us from those who strive to become the best, and to increase us all in knowledge that will benefit us in this life and the next.  Ameen
